Phunjo Lama was born in Chhokangpaaro village of Tsum Valley, Gorkha, Nepal, growing up in the mountainous terrain of Nepal, she developed a keen interest in mountaineering from a young age, inspired by the majestic peaks surrounding her home.
She the is first Nepali female helicopter long-line rescuer, to win the Tenzing – Hillary Award given by the government of Nepal.
She began her mountaineering career with various expeditions in the Himalayas, scaled Mt.Everest, Mt.Manaslu, Mt.Cho Oyu, and other peaks including Amadablam, Lobuche, and Denali, gradually building her skills and reputation in the climbing community.
Her most notable achievement came on May 17, 2018, when she set the record for the fastest ascent of Mount Everest by a woman. She accomplished this feat in an impressive 39 hours and 6 minutes, starting from the base camp and reaching the summit. Later in 2021, Ada Tsang Yin-hung of Hong Kong broke her record by scaling the world’s highest peak in 25 and rs 50 minutes.
This remarkable accomplishment brought her widespread recognition and accolades from both the national and international mountaineering communities, which motivate her to brake the record set by Ada Tsang Yin- hung by scaling Mt.Everest within 14 hours 31minutes on 23rd May.2024 at 6:23 am.
